Действие в олонхо происходит в трёх мирах – Верхнем, Среднем и Нижнем. В середине мироздания находится Аал Луук Мас – Мировое Древо, корни которого уходят в Нижний мир, приют тёмных враждебных сил, крона растет в Среднем мире, где живут люди, а ветви устремлены высоко в небо, где обитают божества Верхнего мира. Можно выделить три группы сюжетов, на которых основываются сказания. Первая из них – олонхо о заселении Среднего мира людьми племени Айыы аймага. Описывается строение Вселенной, всех трёх её миров, их жители, предыстория появления первых людей в Среднем мире, а также изначальная их жизнь с момента появления на земле, организация ими своего жизненного уклада и преодоление препятствий на этом пути. Ко второй группе сюжетов относятся сказания о деяниях героев – выдающихся жителей Средней земли, основателей могучих племён или родов. Герой отправляется за суженой, проходит множество испытаний в упорной борьбе с Абасы – враждебными племенами, обитающими в Нижнем мире, находит судьбой предназначенную жену и становится родоначальником процветающего народа. Третью группу олонхо объединяет тема защиты племен «айыы аймага» от разрушительных действий враждебных тёмных сил Абасы. Целое сказание может описывать историю нескольких поколений героев одного рода или состоящих с ними в родстве, вплетая её в контекст всеобщей истории племён айыы аймага.

The action in Olonkho takes place in three Worlds - Upper, Middle and Lower. In the middle of the universe is Aal Luuk Mas - the World Tree, the roots of which go to the Lower World, the home of dark hostile forces, the crown grows in the Middle World where people live, and the branches are directed high into the sky, where the deities of the Upper World live. There are three groups of plots on which the legends are based on. The first of them is about the settlement of the Middle World by people of the tribe “Aiyy aimaga”. It describes the structure of the Universe, its three worlds, their inhabitants, history of their appearance in the Middle World, as well as their initial life from the moment they appeared on earth, their way of life and overcoming obstacles on their way. The second group of plots includes legends about heroes, prominent inhabitants of Middle Earth, founders of powerful tribes or clans. The hero goes to find his love, goes through many trials in the battle with the Abasy, hostile tribes living in the Lower World, finds a destined wife and becomes the ancestor of a prosperous peoples. The third group of Olonkho plots is united by the theme of protection of Aiyy aimag tribes from destructive actions of Abasy’ dark forces. The whole legend can describe the story of several generations of heroes of the same clan or their relatives, connecting it into the context of the general history of the Aiyy aimag tribes.
